Tread lightly with Eurostar

According to independent research that we commissioned, travelling by Eurostar already generates 10 times less CO₂ than flying. But we’re determined to make our services even greener.

That’s why we’ve introduced the ‘Tread Lightly’ initiative, to help minimise our impact on the environment and help you do the same.

As part of the initiative, we’ve committed to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 25% per traveller journey by 2012.

We’re also implementing a business-wide plan to improve energy efficiency, source supplies responsibly, and recycle anything we can…from staff uniforms to the water we use to wash our trains.

And, as of 14 November 2007 – when services launched from St Pancras International – we offer carbon neutral journeys at no extra cost to you, the traveller.

The future of short-haul travel

Of course, Eurostar isn’t just the environmentally friendlier option – it’s also a seamless, direct, and relaxing alternative to flying. Especially now that High Speed 1 has connected the UK to Europe’s ever-expanding high speed rail network.

In 2007 alone, new lines joined Paris to Strasbourg and Brussels to Amsterdam. And in the years ahead, the network will extend to Germany, Italy, Spain, Switzerland and beyond.
